The “Apple Eater” grinding cylinder has eight rows of stainless steel teeth embedded into a NEW improved 5-1/2” diameter polymer drum that will not crack or breed bacteria. It is secured with a steel pin to a ¾” solid steel shaft. The end result is a totally maintenance-free grinding device that quickly reduces a box of apples to an easily pressed pulp. Tested and proven to give you more juice from your apples without grinding the seeds or stems resulting in a clear sweet cider without bitterness. (Note: There may be a problem with this drum fitting an older Pioneer model that had the wooden sides.)

New plastic grinder
This tumbler did not fit/replace the old drum I had bought with my unit years ago. I couldn't use it with the other parts so I was forced to purchase the whole crusher unit in order to keep and use my unit. Dave did make me a good deal on the grinder and I do appreciate that. The upgrade is great but it doesn't fit with the old.....

Doen't Fit Old Models
I'm torn on how to rate this product. We apparently have an older model of the pioneer press since the grinding unit has plywood sides. The overall dimension on the new drum is a 1/2" wider than the old one. This meant I had to jerry rig my unit to work this year. I made it through but am not impressed that this company didn't have a not saying that the new drum doesn't fit older presses. Happy Valley Ranch Response: We have now so noted this on our website. The old style wood size were of different dimensions than the new cast iron. To assure proper fit you need to order a complete 3 part Red Grinder.

Drum assembly review
Installation of new drum assembly went without problems because instructions were easy to follow. Had to install a new drum because I installed a motor kit on my American harvester and the shaft in the old drum was to short to work with the motor kit.

What do you do when you have an orchard full of apples, a steady flow of guests anticipating making fresh cider and the drum assembly wears out? Quick, email Happy Valley for a new plastic assembly. The assembly arrived in only four days, fit perfectly, and operates better than the old plywood assembly has for several years. We will thank you each time we enjoy a mug of spiced cider all winter.

Amazing quality, but poor fit in an older grinder
After reading other reviews for this part, I was a bit skeptical if this part would fit the grinder on my older until. I called the company, was assured that there was only one size of drum and it would fit all and Homesteader grinders, so I placed an order. When it arrived I found that it was roughly a quarter inch shorter than the old drum. I cut a round plastic disc from 1/4" stock that fits over the shaft, which seems to fill the empty space between the drum assembly and the grinder housing. I am giving the product four stars only because of the poor fit. The drum assembly itself is high quality and well manufactured.
